Chemical Synthesis Project
I am proud to present a classical experiment which sparked my love for chemistry. I was tasked with researching and synthesizing a salt based on a selection of metals. Many of my cohort chose the one marked as easiest on the list; however, I opted for the one which was the hardest. After hours of synthesis work with odd colors and stubborn filters, my classmates began to have a similar blue salt. Most of them reported yields of 40-50% and my professor was very pleased. Nearing the end of the lab session, my final product went from a strange yellow, to a blue, and finally a rich purple. I had a nearly 80% yield, and my product was pure according to my professor. While this endeavor may seem trivial, it helped define who I am. Chemistry for me is not just a practice or field, but an art, humanity's attempt to mimic the natural world. I hope to use chemistry to drive future innovation, and never take the easy path, but the one that will lead to the greatest discoveries.
